We can get so caught up in the “mess” of everything, that we don’t see whats right in front of us. It’s so easy to talk about whats wrong and what could be better but this mindset stops us from truly appreciating what we already have in front of us. We must practice gratitude daily, even if its one minute a day thinking positive thoughts! I’m a huge believer of what you put out into the universe will come back to you ten fold.
I don’t know about you but I definitely don’t want bad things coming back to me because I spent too much time hating what I have!
“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.” —Zig Ziglar
So here are a few tips to help you practice gratitude and watch as the miracles start flowing your way!
Start practicing gratitude today with these 5 easy tasks!
There are so many ways to practice gratitude, but the most important thing to remember, is to be thankful! Thanksgiving is coming up soon, and it’s the perfect place to start! Whether you are with your family gathered together for a meal, or spending it alone; be thankful that you are fortunate and able to have this meal!
“Learn to be thankful for what you already have, while you pursue all that you want.” —Jim Rohn
1. Start a Gratitude Journal
Gratitude journaling is the habit of recording and reflecting on things (typically three) that you are grateful for on a regular basis. In essence, you are rewiring your brain to focus more on the positive aspects of your life and build up resilience against negative situations.Happyfeed.co
When writing in your journal make sure that you are specific and intentional with your writing. Mention names and places as a way to help keep track of who and what may be affecting your mood.
Try to avoid being repetitive when writing, as it will keep your information fresh and help establish a new habit. Yes you may love writing about how amazing your children are, but also express gratitude for other things in your life.
It’s also important to appreciate all of the small wins! This ties into goal setting and achieving those small goals daily. Such as ” I’m going to get all of the laundry done and also finish up two blog posts today”. Once I complete this i’ll feel productive and confident that i have completed a goal. In turn i’ll be especially grateful for my willingness to stick to a plan!
2. Be Polite and use your manners
I don’t think I need to dwell on this too much as it’s pretty self explanatory. As humans we feed off of each others energy; so if you are putting our positive polite vibes to other people, you will receive the same back.
Politeness can and will improve your relationships with others, help to build respect and rapport, boost your self-esteem and confidence, and improve your communication skills.Skills You Need
3. Give thank you notes
As a stationery obsessive, this is a no brainer for me so I always send a thank you note to those who give me or my daughter gifts! Honestly people who “forget” to say thank you are simply just rude. It does not matter how small the task they did for you is; saying thank you is required to express gratitude and to show you appreciation.
People who habitually say thank you life more fulfilling lives, because they find that others are ready and willing to go the extra mile for you. Simply saying thank you or sending a thank you note can tremendously improve relationships with family friends and even in the office! Expect increased success from simply being polite and grateful!

4. Start new traditions
This is definitely the most fun way to practice gratitude and highly fulfilling. You can start something simple, like visiting a family member once a month or taking a family trip once a year!
There are so many traditions you can make but here are a few I have personally started.
- Once a month I take my daughter to an awesome cake and shake cafe so she can get a major sugar fix!
- One weekend a month I focus on fixing up my house with something simple. Could be adding new curtains, or buying new handles for my bathroom cabinets.
- Every other month we take a family weekend trip away, it could be local in a hotel, or out of the state!
5. Use Visual Reminders
This is super easy and something you can do right now! Go through old photo-books and pick out some of your best memories to put into a frame display! Place little memories/ reminders all over your Comfort zone!
It’s the same concept of a vision board. Once you make a vision board you put it up on display and you look at it everyday to remind you of your goals and what you are striving for. Here are some fun way to do this:
- Having a memory gallery wall in your house could be fun!
- A Notice board with tons of polaroids
- Try picking one significant memory and frame it for your desk in the office.
- Create something cool like a mousemat or a mug of your memory!
There you have it, five easy tasks you can do practice gratitude, what are some ways you are grateful?
