Want to create your own bullet journal fold out page for your personal planner? Here is how : One thing I really love to do, is PLAN and ORGANIZE EVERYTHING! As a Graphic Designer i’m very visual, and i’m always coming up with new ideas to keep my brain pumping. I was inspired while planner purchasing, by a fold out calendar from WH SMITH. I love the fact that it is compact and versatile. This gave me an ahah moment , where I thought , why isn’t there more options or ideas for this!? I love to bullet journal, but i’m a big advocate for only using one planner at a time. I wanted to find an easy solution to combining my daily planner and travel bullet journal together. So I designed a cute pull out printable perfect to slot in my personal planner!
Today I’m going to show you exactly how to make this using Adobe Photoshop so you can create your own! If your’e serious about making quality printables that you can sell in your Etsy shop and beyond; I highly recommend grabbing a monthly subscription to adobe Photoshop . Its only the cost of 2 coffees per month! so if you can skip two Starbucks trips in order to make that money back 10x, then go ahead and grab yourself this awesome badass software.
Alternatively if you don’t want to go though all this making and you just want to grab the printable, It’s available for FREE for all my subscribers PLUS a free nov-dec 2017 month on two pages travel calendar!
Supplies – Grab your bullet journal paper
This is the most widely used printable paper and it’s what i’m using for my printable. Grab it here
other supplies :
- A4 Paper or Letter Paper (i’ll be using A4) I also recommend using paper that is little thicker that regular paper. You will want top quality as it’s going to be folded back and forth constantly. Alternatively you can use regular printer paper if your’e on a budget . I’m using this
- Personal size planner
Let’s get started!
Open Adobe Photoshop and select your paper size
Next drag and drop the dot paper file from your downloads directly into the open file in photoshop. Once you have done that, it should pop up like this :
Press ok , then hold down the right click mouse button over the bottom corner of the dot paper. Next press and hold shift and rotate the image to be vertical.
- Then holding down SHIFT +ALT while RIGHT CLICKING from the corner, drag the image and resize to fit the paper.
- Select the rectangle tool and draw a shape any size, then change the dimensions to 1122 w by 2008 H
You got this, stick with me because it’s going to be awesome!
Select the layer and hit CNTRL +J to duplicate the layer one time
Hold down shift while you drag the layer horizontally in place next to the original shape. This way you will stay on the path rather than struggling to line the rectangles up.
Use the dots as a guide to drag and create a roughly 4 -5 dot gap
Next duplicate this new rectangle and align them next to each other (I changed the colours so you can see where each box ends) then bring them all together and eliminate the gap and it should look like this:
PERFECT! now we have the base for our paper !
Next Duplicate the 3rd rectangle (grey) and change the settings to have NO FILL and a black border of 0.07 (this will be our faint folding line)
From here you need to merge the first three rectangle layers. You can do this by selecting each layer while holding shift. Then hitting CNTRL+E or CMND +E on a mac.
you should now have something that looks like this :
WERE ALMOST THERE GUYS!
Next in the layers panel drag the dot paper layer to be above the rectangle layer.
Then right click and select CREATE CLIPPING MASK .
Then change the colour of your rectangle to be WHITE and you should have something that looks like this :
yay we made the perfect size bullet journal paper! – IF THIS IS ALL YOU WANT , NOW PRINT! This is a Tri fold , so fold along the black line we made , fold again to match that size . The third side should be bigger which is perfect as you need to hole punch the paper into your personal planner.
IF YOU WANT MORE ….
I personally like to jazz my stuff up, so i’m going to create a cover using one of my illustrations!
Since its going to be folded , I need the the bullet journal dots on both sides of the page.
How to make a cover page for your bullet journal
Remember that faint fold line we added earlier? well it’s going to come in handy now!
I’m going to grab one of my recent illustrations from my design instagram and drop it in the file, on the right hand side.
Next in the layers panel i’m going to drag the layer to the top and create a clipping mask by right clicking and selecting the option.
Now we have this :
Like this illustration? You can grab it for FREE POSTER SIZE if you are a subscriber !
Want a completely free travel Planner to help you make the most of your next trip?
Now I’m going to print this exactly how it is, THEN head back to photoshop and do these steps :
- Hide the illustration layer
- remove the clipping mask of the dot paper to the 3 rectangle file
This will leave me with a full page of dots which I can now print on the other side of my paper!
Use the dots as a guide for cutting out and bullet journal your life away!
PIN ONE OF THESE FOR LATER!
