This week I was invited to have dinner at Cafe Rouge Mailbox , to taste their new Croques menu. I invited my friend and new blogger Bianca out for a girls dinner, and cocktails. Despite the dreary weather, we had a great time and got to chit chat about her upcoming wedding.
Cafe Rouge have decided to reinvent the classic French favourite, The Croque Monsieur. They have now added The Portobello Mushroom and The Hot Smoked Salmon , Which I decided to try out today. We had a full three course meal with the Croque as the Main. Did the brand new Hot Smoked Salmon Croque live up to the hype? Keep reading to find out.
What I ate at Cafe Rouge Mailbox
After browsing the menu we started off with drinks. We both had Pink Lemonades, which honestly wasn’t as sweet as I expected. I’m used to the ultra sweet, deathly American Pink Lemonade you get in the mall. Nevertheless it was tasty and a great start to our outing.
For our starter we both ordered the Crevettes. This comes with king prawns in garlic & smoked chilli butter with a baguette. Honestly this was incredibly tasty and I wish there were more prawns! It’s a delicious starter that everyone should try!
Mains | Cafe Rouge Mailbox
For my main meal I chose the Hot smoked salmon, garlic cream cheese and Chive Croque. I’ve never had a Croque before so his was my first time trying an official plate. I have however had a fake “toastie ” version on many Starbucks trips so I had an idea of what i was getting into.
Since New Years, I’ve been on a red meat and chicken cleanse. I haven’t had any chicken at all , but have had a few nibbles of pork and beef; either way my focus has been on fish only. For this reason I opted for the Salmon Croque.
If i’m being honest, The first bite was not what I expected. It could be that i’ve been making salmon a certain way for years, that when tasting others, I felt let down. It wasn’t bad, I just expected it to have a bit more flavour. The cheese on top was a great addition, however by the time I was half way through the second sandwich, I felt a bit sick from too much cheese.
Overall the Croque tasted great and I would definitely have it again, but probably try the mushroom instead.
We ordered another Mocktail which was the Peach Iced Tea, a refined classic, with flavours of luscious peach. If you ever want a drink from Cafe rouge, the Peach Iced Tea mocktail is 100% the best option!
Dessert at Cafe Rouge Mailbox
Pack a delicious baked vanilla cheesecake with fresh strawberries and strawberry coulis into a dessert and taste heaven! This was bar far the best dessert i’ve had in a long while. I highly recommend that you grab this dessert next time you step into Cafe Rouge, you will not be disappointed.
overall my experience at Cafe Rouge Mailbox was great! The service was lovely, and the atmosphere was enjoyable. As a blogger I wouldn’t say having yellow lighting everywhere was great for my photos, but the ambiance was lovely! Have you ever been to Cafe Rouge Mailbox Birmingham?
