If you want to travel the world on a budget like myself, you are always going to be looking for ways to save money. Flights can get pricey and often times it is not worth it. I’m going to give you five reasons why you should not fly , and choose other options if you’re close enough. Megabus & Greyhound soar in comparison to flying domestic!
In this post i’ll be giving you:
Five reasons not to fly and to hit the road instead!
1. Coach is cheaper than affordable
Yes I said that right, let’s state obvious here. Traveling via coach is less than half the price it will cost you to fly!
I was a frequent flyer from Virginia to New York because I thought the cost of driving in my car plus tolls would work out the same.
For example, a standard flight from IAD – JFK will break at least $250 from your wallet .
You can grab a MEGABUS directly into the city, for as little as $30 return.
*face hits floor *
2.Driving is soo much more fun with friends!
First let’s talk money, because at the end of the day we need to save it! Driving is a little more costly on your own, but think of the togetherness!
- Two full tanks of gas in my Hyundai Elantra, return trip, ($60)
- Interstate tolls return trip($120)
- In total it will cost you roughly from $200-$230 to drive from DC- New York. That’s counting in driving around New York City, burning more gas on your trip.
ASIDE from money , Imagine all the fun you and your bffs can have driving there ! Plus, if you grab 2-4 friends and travel together.
TRY SPLITTING THE COST BETWEEN YOU!
You’re looking at $60 each! STILL CHEAPER THAN A FLIGHT!
3. Literally every other way to travel includes wifi or mobile internet access.
Ok so this may not seem like a big deal, but staying connected is a priority for me . And is for a lot of people
Traveling on a Short hop domestic plane often times doesn’t come with wifi access which means 2hours or more in the air you’re stuck for luck.(Unless you pay for one of those pricey wifi plans) I know that i’m past the point of watching airplane movies or tv episodes that aren’t even in order. Seriously they should just add Netflix and Hulu on planes and let people login to their accounts!
4. Travel in comfort!
Yes the plane has semi comfortable seats, but like a said, domestic flights aren’t all that . Airlines don’t put in much effort for short flights when comfort is concerned.
There are the unlucky few who get stuck in the middle seat, between two oversized strangers (*raises hand )
No leg room on planes either! … Just saying!
A coach/bus is two per seat, so if you are traveling with a friend you know you are only sitting next to them! PLUS you get free wifi & powered seats .
Some domestic airlines have powered seats, but most of them don’t. If they do, they work about 25% of the time .
5. Breathtaking views
I don’t know about you, but I love a quality travel photo; especially the photos that aren’t in a specific location. I like my photos to have a sense of realism rather than staged, and you can capture that on the road! The best photos I can capture when I fly is of an airplane wing!
Don’t get me wrong I love my airplane wing photos; but why not step it up a notch and capture photos of locations you wouldn’t have normally taken!
Here is an exclusive deal just for you 🙂
